Meow! Hiroshima Cat Street View lets you explore the world like a cat

by AJT Santos

Japan wins again.

The Hiroshima prefecture’s tourism board has recently come up with an interactive map for the city of Onomichi every feline lover will go crazy over.

If you’re familiar with Google Street View (and who isn’t?), then this is essentially the same concept. You get to walk around and explore the city’s shopping center, alleys, and restaurants as if you were actually there — except you do it from a cat’s POV. Literally.

Similar to Japanese RPGs, you can’t really veer off the programmed route as the destinations are fixed but you still have a 360-degree view of each stop your cat guide makes around the city complete with ambient street noise and cat sounds.

Icons on the map let you click on a cat’s embedded profile which brings up information about the place and the cat that lives there. You can even view POV footage taken by actual cats wearing a video camera on some stops!

I can’t even! So cute!!!

Cats just love staying underneath cars.

Japan’s “Kanpai! Hiroshima — Look! — Eat! — Drink!” campaign has been a huge success so far and they are planning to roll out even more stops in the next couple of months. Do you think the Philippines is ready for out-of-the-box tourism ideas like this? Tell us in the comment section.
