Spending a bit of time with Cody Simpson

There’s something about Cody Simpson that can make everyone weak in the knees and swoon. The 18-year old Aussie, who recently broke free from the shackles of music industry mammoths, is currently on a tour for his fourth album, “Free”, which is also the first album to be produced under his own music label, Coast House / Bananabeat Records. With his music’s chill vibe reminiscent of California beaches and his happy-go-lucky demeanor, he successfully made his intimate performance last August 12 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater a night to remember as he connected with his fans the only way he knows how: through his music.

Before all the swooning transpired, however, fans were treated to the vocal stylings of Gravity Muzic, a 5-piece group composed of former The Voice Kids contestants, namely: Zack Tabudlo, Grace Alade, Eufritz Santos, Julienne Echavez, and Rommel Bautista. With great energy, they breathed new life into pop songs like “Counting Stars” and “Flashlight” and prepped the crowd for the teen sensation with some of their original songs like “Imposible”.

After this, theater curtains finally rose to reveal a simple set up consisting only of Cody, his band, and their instruments. There’s the Aussie singer in the middle of the stage, dressed in a simple ripped shirt and jeans, ready to work his magic on the crowd for a solid hour and a half. Our favorite moments?

Cody decided to start strong with “Free”.

In between songs like “Thotful” and “Flower”, Cody revealed that he felt so relieved just being all about the music and thanked every single one of his fans for their continued support.

Things became more intimate when he sat down for “Livin’ Easy”.

He also slowed things down with an acoustic solo of “Wilderness”.

With a short pause to say, “These songs are freedom,” Cody continued his set with “Happy Little Hippie” and “What You Want”, played while he’s lying down on the stage.

Towards the last part of his set, he led the crowd through “ABC” and “New Problems” and with a final “I love you!” to the crowd, Cody left Simpsonizers screaming for more.
