Roblox is an online game platform that allows users to program their own games, bringing people together through play. Roblox developer Wonder Works Studio and Warner Music Group (WMG) have partnered to create an “intergalactic club venue to bring dance culture to the metaverse”.

Producer David Guetta hosted the virtual party that premiered Friday, February 4, and all throughout the weekend. The virtual party was deemed as “an interactive universe powered by the latest Roblox technology and visual enhancements.”

The DJ performed in his avatar self in an intergalactic themed set equipped with crystals, neon lights, holograms, and even lasers. The party was designed to have an interactive experience wherein the attendees could navigate through the show with an asteroid-traversing course. With Roblox’s visual enhancements, they were able to make the virtual party immersive.

Aside from Guetta’s 45-minute music performance, the show also featured dance battles, secret puzzles that unlocked special abilities, virtual merchandise (or “verch”), and more. The Roblox community also had a chance to have Q&As with the DJ.

WMG stated that this virtual concert is “a testament to monetizing music through immersive experiences and bringing people together through music and technology.” Roblox Vice President and Global Head of Music Jon Vlassopulos expressed his enthusiasm to Warner for hosting another major virtual concert that featured one of the famous stars to perform on Roblox.

“Working on this concert has allowed me to bring an amazing new creation to life with design and production to suit the virtual world,” Guetta stated. “We’ve built something that will play host to one of the most unique shows I’ve ever done, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience it with me.”

The online game attracted 49.9 million daily active users in November 2021. WMG has brought artists like Ava Max, Why Don’t We, Royal Blood, Lil Nas X, and Twenty One Pilots to perform on Roblox.

With such virtual events, it has reached millions of fans in over 180 countries across the globe. “It’s going to expose a new generation of fans to dance music and take clubbing to a whole level!” Vlassopulos said.
