2022’s most anticipated anime releases

The new year has arrived, and anime fans worldwide cannot be more excited about it. 2022 is going to be a great year for anime — there is a mix of new anime adaptations from popular manga and old familiar anime with new seasons. Let’s look at our list of the most anticipated anime of 2022.

Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2

The final episodes of one of the most popular anime ever are finally here. How will Eren Jaeger’s story end? What will be the fate of the people of Paradis? This anime has been around for almost 9 years, so anyone that has been keeping up with the show is excited for its finale. The first episode was already released on Crunchyroll last January 10, and it will run for 12 episodes total. Let’s hope that MAPPA, the animation studio behind the final season, will give justice to Hajime Isayama’s story.

Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man is a story about a poor, homeless kid named Denji who wants to live a normal life and meet a woman. The manga made by Tatsuki Fujimoto already has a huge and dedicated fanbase. Since the first part of the story has already been completed in the manga, MAPPA (the animation studio behind the show) has a lot of material to work with. As seen in the official trailer for the anime, MAPPA seems to be promising us a show with beautiful animation and art, which, combined with the brilliantly bittersweet story of Fujimoto, has made anime fans very hyped. There is no official release date for Chainsaw Man just yet, but MAPPA has promised us a 2022 release.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 3: Ultra Romantic

Kaguya-sama: Love is War’s previous two seasons have been one of the highest-rated in the romantic comedy anime category, based on reviews from MAL. Fans love it for its brilliant comedy, which includes a lot of visual gags plus brilliant comedic writing, based on the manga from Aka Akasaka. It also includes lovable characters, with a somewhat slow-moving but deceptively deep romantic story. The first two seasons have focused more on the comedy aspect, and fans already love it. We’ll probably get even more romance in season 3, so I’m sure that fans who exclusively watch the anime will fall in love with the show even more. The show will be released in April of this year.

Spy x Family

Spy x Family is the story of a master agent who has to build a fake family to complete a critical mission. He quickly adopts a six-year-old girl and formally marries a woman within a week. However, he doesn’t know that his wife is an assassin, and his daughter is a mind-reader! This unique concept creates some great comedic situations. The manga made by Tatsuya Endo is packed with great action, comedy, and lots of romance that literally can’t be seen anywhere else because of how unique the premise is. Spy x Family’s second trailer already has 2 million views, and its gorgeous animation has fans even more hyped for the show’s April 2022 release.

Mob Psycho 100 Season 3

Mob Psycho 100 is written and illustrated by ONE, the same guy who continues to make the incredible story for One Punch Man. Mob Psycho features another overpowered protagonist in Mob, a kid with psychic powers. The first two seasons have impressed fans with incredible storytelling and smooth and stunning animation from Bones studio. Season 3 will probably be the final season and will cover the last 10 chapters of ONE’s manga. It has no official release date yet, but it has been rumored to release in April 2022.

Uzumaki

Uzumaki is based on Junji Itou’s most popular horror manga of the same name. The anime adaptation is produced by Toonami and Production I.G. and will be released in October 2022. The teaser above showcases the eerie black and white style with rotoscoped animation. An incredible soundtrack by Colin Stetson elevates the already creepy vibe. This show has been in production for more than three years, with multiple delays due to the pandemic. However, it does seem that the people behind this anime are genuinely trying to make it perfect, to give justice to Junji Itou’s classic manga that has made its mark in pop culture.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Edgerunners will be a spin-off anime based on the Cyberpunk 2077 game. It’s set in the same universe, but with a completely new story and new characters. It tells the story of “a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future.” We don’t know much about the game other than that information, and there isn’t even an official trailer. Despite this, the hype around the anime is huge, probably stemming from the Cyberpunk 2077’s fans. Let’s hope that, unlike the game, it doesn’t disappoint. There is no official release date yet but we are assured that it will come this year.

Made In Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun (Season 2)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7WtJJpRb80

The first season of Made in Abyss had anime-only viewers expecting a cutesy and happy story because of the art style of its characters. However, hidden behind that chibi-like art style is a brutal, painful, and gory anime that has become one of the highest-rated shows in MAL. It has been five years since the first season, so fans have been waiting for season 2 for a long time, and they’re finally getting it this 2022. There is no official release date yet.
