4 most anticipated titles coming to Philippine cinemas in 2022

A new year means new movies, and with cinemas in the Philippines reopened, we have a lot of catching up to do with a few titles that have already been released in other countries. Once the Metro Manila Film Festival ends this weekend, Philippine cinemas have a bunch of movies lined up for eager moviegoers.

Here are some of the most anticipated titles hitting Philippine theaters in 2022:

Spider-Man: No Way Home (January 8)

Picking up right where Spider-Man: Far From Home left off, in Spider-Man: No Way Home the true identity of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has been revealed to the public after the stunt Mysterio pulled after Peter defeated him. Now that everyone knows he’s Spider-Man, Peter struggles to draw the line between normal life and the risks that come with being a superhero. When he turns to Doctor Strange for help, the risks become even higher and Peter learns what it really means to be Spider-Man.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife (January 26)

Set 32 years after the events of Ghostbusters II, the Ghostbusters have disbanded after a decline in supernatural activity in New York City. Dr. Egon Spengler relocated to Summerville, Oklahoma, but suffers a fatal heart attack after failing to capture a powerful entity in his farmhouse. Callie, Egon’s estranged daughter, and her two kids Trevor and Phoebe, move to Egon’s farm, which he left for his daughter. The story follows Callie and her kids and how they discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy that Egon left behind.

Morbius (February 9)

Dr. Morbius has a rare blood disorder. Determined to save others from suffering the same fate as him, Morbius seeks out a cure for his disease with experimental vampire bat science. At first it seems like a successful experiment, but things take a turn for the worse when the darkness in Morbius is unleashed. Jared Leto stars as the titular character, bringing to life one of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicting characters.

Uncharted (February 23)

If you’re familiar with the Uncharted video game series, you’re probably wondering why the cast members of the film are younger than the characters that they’re portraying from the games. The movie adaptation is actually set to be the prequel to the video game series, set before the events of the first game, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Tom Holland stars as Nathan Drake, alongside Mark Wahlberg, who portrays Drake’s fellow treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan.
