Time and time again, the spirits of the Tamaraw students have never ceased to be ignited. As the Tamaraws head on to October, the Far Eastern University (FEU) students have yet again prepared another fundraising event meant to give awareness about the endangered lives of the Tamaraws in Mindoro. Last October 28-30, 2021, the Far Eastern University Central Student Organization (FEU CSO) prepared a 3-day long online busking event with the theme, “Mula sa Tamaraw, Para sa Tamaraw,” featuring homegrown talents of the university, as well as inviting several guest speakers with special appearances of famous influencers on social media.
On the first day of the online busking event, the FEU IAS Dance Company Intermission, FEU CSO Sports and Talent Department, IABF Powerband, and FEU Medical Technology Society – Delta Harmonica have proudly showcased their own sets of performances to the Tamaraw students, with the special appearance of Ms. Joyce Glorioso and the guest speaker, Mrs. Marilou F. Cao, EdD. Immediately on the second day of the event, the performances of the ITHM Groovers, IAS SESSIONISTAS, FEU MAKATI (Talentadong Tamaraw’s Winner), and the IARFA Pastorale were the main highlights of the online busking, with the guest speaker, Mr. Neil Anthony Del Mundo.
On the last day of the event, the performances of the FEU Drummers, FEU Medical Technology – One Hit Immunity, FEU COLLEGE Y CLUB, IE (Jay Jay Beriña and Jabriel Caleb Dailo), and One Piyu Music, with the guest speaker, Ms. Kathy Lene Cielo, ended the online busking with a blast.
The FEU CSO also held an online raffle event that took place alongside the online busking event. On the last day, it was announced that 9 Winners received E-vouchers for Keich. Some raffle winners also received Keich UV Light, BRTC Exclusive Merchandise Set, and FEU Merchandise, all of which are a few of the partners and sponsors of the event.
The Tamaraws have always been the FEU’s icon of bravery, courage, intelligence, and strength. Sadly, however, in 2020 it is recorded that 480 Tamaraws are left alive on the island of Mindoro. The heart of this online busking event is to bring awareness regarding the gradual extinction of the dwarf wild buffalo and to provide some amount of financial support for the Tawbuid Indigenous Tribe and Tamaraw Rangers who have perseveringly dedicated their lives taking care of these critically endangered species. Our Tamaraw guardians are facing a new level of distress with their inadequate salaries, not to mention budget cuts due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
At the end of the event, FEU CSO raised Php 14,076.67 wherein 100% of the collected money was donated to the Tamaraw Rangers for the preservation and protection of the endangered Tamaraws.
To conclude the event, it must be emphasized that Tamaraws represent a culture of hard work, intelligence, friendliness, and respect therefore it is ideal for the FEU students to embody these same values to protect, preserve, and be a source of hope for everyone. Tam Month may be over, but the FEU Students proudly uplift the Tamaraws and will continue to spread awareness and fight side-by-side with the Tamaraw Rangers to preserve their life.
