Solangelo shippers, rise up — Rick Riordan is working on a new Camp Half-Blood book, and it will focus on Will Solace and Nico di Angelo.
The best-selling author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series announced on his website that he’s not done with Percy’s world and is working on yet another book, this time focusing on the adventures of Will Solace and Nico di Angelo.
Riordan included in his announcement that he will be teaming up with author Mark Oshiro for the upcoming novel. The Percy Jackson author mentioned that he has never co-written a novel with anyone before and is very excited to co-write the Nico and Will novel with Oshiro. Riordan and Oshiro worked together to write the synopsis and manuscript for the upcoming novel and will receive equal credit on writing the book.
Oshiro has written acclaimed YA novels starring LGBTQ+ characters (Anger Is a Gift, Each of Us a Desert, The Insiders), and Riordan is teaming up with them for the Nico and Will novel to ensure that Nico’s point of view in the story will be as authentic as possible.
A longtime fan of the Percy Jackson universe, Oshiro has also expressed that they are excited to be working with Riordan for the Nico and Will novel. “To say I love Nico and Will is an understatement. To say I’m honored to get to write their story feels trite. This is the greatest privilege I can possibly imagine. And to all you Solangelo fans out there: I’m one of you, too, and I’m gonna write them the best book ever,” Oshiro wrote in a tweet.

The Nico and Will novel doesn’t have a title yet, but Riordan hinted in his announcement that they will be “invading Tartarus,” so the couple could be going on a quest to the Underworld together. The story is set after the events of Riordan’s most recent Percy Jackson-related series, The Trials of Apollo.
The Percy Jackson author said in his announcement that he had left little hints that could lead to stand-alone adventures with other characters, like in the fourth book of The Trials of Apollo series, The Tower of Nero, wherein Nico starts hearing a voice calling out to him from Tartarus, the deepest part of the Underworld.
Nico believes that he recognizes the voice to be that of Bob the Titan, who appeared in the previous Percy Jackson-related series The Heroes of Olympus. Bob the Titan had sacrificed himself to help Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase escape Tartarus. The Nico and Will novel will be focusing on this plot point, with the two going on their own adventure to rescue Bob.
Riordan and Oshiro’s novel will be published by Disney-Hyperion and is set for release in 2023.
