It’s been 17 years since the most iconic teen comedy film, Mean Girls, was released.
Mean Girls may have been released in the early 2000s but it is still loved and as relevant as ever up ‘till now. Garnering fans worldwide, Mean Girls is not only iconic for its plot and quotable quotes, but also for its ensemble of great casts.
Taking us to a trip down memory lane, Amanda Seyfried who played as Karen Smith in the film, posted on her Instagram a throwback photo of the cast. Seyfried wrote an accompanying caption “#FBF weekends in 2003, baby.”
In the photo, Amanda Seyfried is seen posing alongside her co-stars Lindsay Lohan (Cady Heron), Lacey Chabert (Gretchen Wieners), Lizzy Caplan (Janis Ian), Daniel Franzese (Damian Leigh), and Jonathan Bennett (Aaron Samuels). Missing from the photo is Rachel McAdams who played the queen bee Regina George.
As of writing, the post already reached over 700,000 likes and comments from nostalgic fans and celebrities alike. The cast members themselves even left comments on the post.
Chabert wrote “Wow. So many good memories!”, while Franzese commented “Ohhh emmm geeee”. Another castmate Bennett described them as “We are babies”, and Lohan praised the crew stating “Such a fun time! A great team!”
According to an interview on Lights Out with David Spade, Lohan said that she would love to return to the ‘Mean Girls universe.’
She added, “I think I was hanging on to [Mean Girls] for a really long time. I wanted to come back with Mean Girls 2. To work with Tina, and the whole crew again, and Mark Waters (director). That was really what I wanted. I was excited to do that. But that’s all in their hands, really. So that would definitely be an exciting thing.”
Since its release in 2004, Mean Girls already has a made-for-TV sequel that premiered on ABC Family, a Broadway Musical in 2017, and an upcoming movie adaptation of the musical.
