Gandingan 2021, to resonate for public health

Gandingan 2021: The 15th UPLB Isko’t Iska’s Multi-media Awards will be streamed live on Facebook on May 22 at 2pm. This year’s theme is “Midya: Kaagapay ng Bayan sa Pagharap sa Krisis sa Pampublikong Kalusugan.”

Usually held at the DL Umali Hall in the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), Gandingan Awards, the country’s most credible and highly anticipated university-based media award, will go online for the second time as COVID-19 cases in the country continue to rise. Gandingan was held fully online in July 2020, the first to do so among media awards, in accordance with the health protocols that prohibit large social gatherings.

Gandingan

Organized by the UP Community Broadcasters’ Society (UP ComBroadSoc), Gandingan Awards honors media organizations, programs, and personalities, which provide crucial development-oriented information to Filipinos.

The role of media remains vital in continuously delivering accurate and truthful information on public health, especially infectious and non-infectious diseases that affect people all over the world. Gandingan Awards 2021 highlights media’s role in strengthening public access to essential information to keep themselves aware, healthy, and safe.

UP ComBroadSoc dedicates Gandingan to the country’s honorable frontliners who put their lives at risk to ensure our fellowmen are safe and healthy, to our laborers who call for their rights to safely return to work amidst a health crisis, to our underprivileged students who were deprived of equal and inclusive education, and other sectors in society that continue to fight for their right to universal health.

This year, Gandingan Awards partners with Shelter of Hope (Silungan ng Pag-asa) in Manila that supports children with cancer. Shelter of Hope serves as a temporary shelter for children from different provinces who have no relatives to stay with while receiving treatment in Manila. Currently, five children are staying at the shelter while the others consistently receive support in their respective provinces.
