This March, the Far Eastern University – Institute of Technology’s Association of Computing Machinery, together with partner companies and organizations, is setting its second iteration of Into the Code: F++ with the tagline: Women Beyond Infinity and Defying Gravity – an event spanning several days that will run until March 24, 2021. Spearheaded by FEU Tech ACM’s Krysch Chalia Atienza as Overall Project Head, this event aims to promote the abolishment of pre-existing gender stereotypes, campaign for inclusivity in men-dominated workplaces, and celebrate the success of womanhood, not just in the field of STEM but in every existing industry.
For this year, as the world continues to cope and adapt to the new normal set upon by the COVID-19 pandemic, this iteration of ITCF will be reconfigured to be implemented virtually via the video-sharing application Zoom.
Steadfast in pursuing the goal of advocacy for gender equality, FEU Tech ACM has invited a list of esteemed speakers that will take the virtual stage and discuss the persevering problems that hinder the discourse on gender-related issues in this country. This is in the hopes that this will spark passion and debate amongst the attendees in the subjects of gender bias and abolishment of the archaic roles of women in the society. These series of webinars will happen on March 10 and March 24, 2021, with extra workshops on the final day for those wishing to learn new skills.
In line with this, FEU Tech ACM will also launch a series of competitions and activities to promote participation in the said event. In the spirit of competition and celebration of wit, an oratorical contest will be the main activity of the event as a way of promoting discourse within the community. The registration for the said contest runs until March 13, 2021, with the finalists competing live on March 17, 2021. The winners of the said event will receive recognition and monetary rewards. In addition to this, there will also be tasks released throughout the event period that will also have corresponding cash prizes.
