UP SAMASKOM celebrates its 46th year with ‘Urong Sulong’

Join UP SAMASKOM as it celebrates its 46th year with Urong Sulong: The UP SAMASKOM 46th Anniversary Special this March. Hop on the UP SAMASKOM Facebook page to embark on a month-long celebration of performance, expression, and media responsibility.

As UP SAMASKOM continues to make history and push creative boundaries as the University of the Philippines’ premier academic-performing media organization, Urong Sulong is a commemoration of the organization’s past successes and a reminder of future possibilities.

Prior to the March festivities, UP SAMASKOM warmed up audiences with Tumalikod Man Sa’yo, the country’s first remotely produced student-led online serye. The homage to classic Filipino soap operas aired on UP SAMASKOM’s Facebook and YouTube pages last February, and is still available to view for those interested in the sisterly drama of Querbellina and Viveca Mae Jones.

UP SAMASKOM’s Anniversary Month kicks off with Nosi Balasi: The Magic Behind UP SAMASKOM on March 6, 2021 via Facebook and Instagram. The online exhibit showcases UP SAMASKOM through the years, providing a glimpse into the activities and relationships within the organization. With over 400 alumni, dozens of projects and productions, and countless creative and multimedia contributions to UP SAMASKOM’s name, the human faces behind these accomplishments are highlighted in Nosi Balasi.

Relive the best moments of the past years’ Live AIDS through LAngit, Baby LAngit na ‘To!, a series of online Live AIDS viewing sessions. Live Ang Istoryang Dinebelop ng SAMASKOM, or Live AIDS, is UP SAMASKOM’s crowning glory. The organization’s creative prowess and political jabs shine through this annual production. Though the pandemic has forced the country’s longest running musical comedy variety show to temporarily halt, UP SAMASKOM keeps its spirit alive for Urong Sulong. Catch the live streams on March 9, 11, and 13, 2021 at 7:30 PM on UP SAMASKOM’s Facebook page.

The festivities come to a close with Sunog, Mga Kapatid!: A Roundtable Discussion on Creative Burnout in Media During the Pandemic on March 19, 2021 from 4:30-6 PM via Facebook Live. UP SAMASKOM returns to its roots by promoting responsibility in creative industries and the media, discussing the effect of the pandemic on creative burnout and how to overcome it. Direk Lauren Dyogi, filmmaker JP Habac, internet personality Macoy Averilla, and UP Diliman Professors Fernando Austria, Jr. and Eloi Hernandez are slated to make appearances.

Don’t miss out on the fun and fighting spirit of UP SAMASKOM’s Urong Sulong! Join in on the festivities via Facebook (UP SAMASKOM), Instagram (@upsamaskom), TikTok (@upsamaskom),  and Twitter (@UPSamaskom).
