‘Love is’: Korean artist Puuung’s endearing drawings of everyday love now a bestselling book series

Nowadays, people’s definitions of love still vary. Sometimes, when asked about it, people still spend a few minutes coming up with their own definition of love. Some define it based on the common sayings that have been passed on through generations, some are still in search of its meaning, some take its meaning from their own vocabulary as if they have already mastered it, while others define it as simple as “love is love.”

But what really is the meaning of love? If you are still looking for its meaning while waiting for your one true love to come along, here is a heart-fluttering Korean bestselling series that will remind you that love does not have to be complicated and that it can be found even in the smallest things in our everyday lives.

The “Love is…” series features 200 illustrations depicting love, with artwork by famous South Korean animator and illustrator Park Dami, better known as “Puuung.” Her works started as a Grafolio love story starring a fictional boy and girl whose relationship shows what love looks like in daily life. Later on, Puuung’s wonderful illustrations became a social media sensation.

“I feel [that] love is something that emits light from small things and comes in ways that we can easily overlook in our daily lives,” Puuung states in the preface of the book.

“I work to find little moments of ordinary love in the daily lives of people and translate them into illustrations and animations,” she added.

Through her passion for drawing, especially as most of her works focus on love, Puuung was able to easily capture the hearts of people who could relate to her representations of love. Currently, she has over a million followers on Facebook alone.

Why is it a must-read?

The “Love is…”series is composed of special real-life moments often seen among couples regardless of age, and it will remind you to cherish love in every moment of your own life. No matter what your relationship status is right now, this book will make you believe that love really does exist even in small ways.

If you are a K-Drama fan, you probably know too that Puuung’s book was featured in and popularized by the 2016 South Korean television series “W: Two Worlds,” starring Lee Jong-suk and Han Hyo-joo. In one of its episodes, Lee’s character Kang Chul buys a book with a list of sweet and simple romantic things women love as a way of showing his feelings for Han’s character Oh Yeon Joo.

She has also been releasing animated series on YouTube about her books of love, as well as some animation tutorials.

Meanwhile, the book, which now has an English version, is available on Apop Book’s website for an exclusive 20% launch discount at P360 per book, while stocks last. It is originally priced at P450. The “Love is…” book bundle is also available for an exclusive 20% launch discount at P680; the original price is P850.
