University of the Philippines Civil Engineering Society celebrates its success as they wrap up Colloquia 2020

The University of the Philippines-Los Banos’ very own University of the Philippines Civil Engineering Society (UPCES) wraps up its annual academic forum entitled ‘Colloquia’, a series of webinars that offer topics which are very relevant in the field of civil engineering right now.

To prepare future civil engineers for the New Normal setting and its standards, UPCES, a duly recognized organization, presented Colloquia targeting civil engineers nationwide. Despite the pandemic, UPCES still pursued its 9th year of Colloquia to help future civil engineers by restructuring it into a series of webinars through the Zoom application.

Colloquia 2020 was held last 24th, 25th and 31st of October 2020, with the theme “Transitioning to the ‘New Normal’: Redefining Project Management Principles Towards a More Flexible Work System”. Colloquia did not only impart knowledge, tips and insights on old and new developments in the field of Project Management in the Philippines but also in different parts of the world.

Colloquia 2020 has invited six professional speakers around the world to discuss the topics related to this year’s theme. They had Engr. Paul Ramirez, a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors from the Philippines and Engr. Julius Marvin Flores, a University Lecturer, and Research and Development Department Manager of IRIS Technology from South Korea for its first day. They also had Engr. Jerome Masilang, a Project Control Manager of Australian Tier One Contractor and Engr. Eliseo Ana, Jr., a Senior Vice President and Head of Project Development at SN Power from the Netherlands for its second day. Lastly, they had Engr. Justinn Valerio, a director of the New Zealand Philippines Business Council and Engr. Arlene Joy Paredes, a Singapore Chapter President of the Philippine Institute of Certified Quantity Surveyors on its last day.

Colloquia 2020 had a total of 310 participants and UPCES sends its deepest gratitude to everyone who still participated, despite the pandemic and flood situation due to the incoming Typhoon ‘Rolly’
