4 tips on how to properly take care of your body piercings

Congratulations! You’ve finally followed-through on your piercing from years of staring at your ear piercing Pinterest board. However, the hard part has just begun. Cleaning your piercing can be a chore and it’ll be a few months until you can change your jewelry. Don’t worry though, because while the healing process for piercings differs from person to person, there are a few things you can do to take care of your new piercing and help it heal without any issues.

Don’t use alcohol
Using alcohol to clean your piercing can irritate and dry up the skin around it which can crack or bleed. Use soaps and saline solution recommended by your piercer instead.

Do a sea salt soak
Speaking of saline solutions, a sea salt soak is a great way to ease the pain and accelerate the piercing’s healing process. Warm up your saline solution in a clean cup and soak areas with the new piercing for around 2-3 minutes.

Change your sheets
Make sure your bed sheets are clean and changed frequently while the piercing is healing, especially if you like to sleep with your pets on the bed.

Use a neckpillow
If you have ear piercings, resting your ear through the space in the neck pillow can help you sleep on the side with the piercing more comfortably as you can’t put pressure on them.

Remember, if you have any questions or encounter any problems with your piercings, your piercer should be the first person you should contact.
