‘SCANDAL’ rocks SMX Convention Center for the first time

Japan’s no.1 all-female rock band, SCANDAL, finally performed in Manila for the first time at the SMX Convention Center last June 24—fulfilling the wishes of their Filipino fans to rock out with their idols, if only for a night.

For many years, their fans have been clamoring for them to come to the country. So it’s no wonder that when the group announced last February that there’s a Philippine leg of their SCANDAL Asia Tour ‘Honey’, it caused quite a stir among their fans. It’s after all, a night they have all been waiting for.

As the impatient crowd chanted for SCANDAL to come out and perform, multiple factions in the audience started cheering for their favorite members. They didn’t have to wait for long because after a few minutes, Haruna, Mami, Tomomi, and Rina kicked off their concert with “Platform Syndrome”, the lead single from their latest album, Honey.

Promising their fans that they “will give their best during their performance”, the quartet didn’t disappoint as they played crowd favorites such as: SCANDAL BABY, Shunkan Sentimental, Take Me Out, EVERYBODY SAY YEAH!, and Space Ranger.

While songs from their latest album—Futari, Midnight City, and Koi suru Universe—were equally well-received as fans jump, sing, and dance along with the band.

SCANDAL interacted with the crowd by using several popular Filipino catch phrases. Lead vocalist Haruna mentioned “boom panis” once and the crowd just lost their wits—inspiring an impromptu sing along of the novelty song made popular by Vice Ganda.

They also shared that Filipino fast-food chain, Jollibee, was at the top of their “must-try” list ever since they arrived in the country. Pinoy food such as lumpiang shanghai and banana cue have made it into their list of fave food.

And like everything else, all good things come to an end. SCANDAL thanked their fans for being “awesome” and “perfect”. But their fans were not having it and kept screaming for an encore.

The girls went back on stage, wearing their custom-made shirts and comfortable pants, and performed their last two songs for the night: Sisters and LOVE SURVIVE.

Haruna capped off the night by saying, “thanks for all the support, we love you all so much” and an obligatory photo with all their fans.
