15th Lanuza Surfing Festival formally kicks off

The Philippine Surfing Championship Tour’s second leg has officially opened at surfing gateway of this country, Lanuza, Surigao Del Sur, on November 5, 20 17. It has been graced by the presence of sponsors and police officers who showed their support to among their greatest running surfing competitions.

For 15 years, the Lanuza Surfing Festival is now a forefront in boosting the municipality of all Lanuza, Surigao Del Sur as one of the top surfing destinations in the Philippines. This year, a record-breaking 160 surfers from La Union, Zambales Baler Catanduanes Cebu, Siargao, and Davao joined the event. Besides the Men’s Open Shortboard category, that had been the only division throughout the initial leg held in Siargao, this PSCT-leg may even highlight the Grommets (16 year old and under), Men’s Open long board, and also the Women’s Longboard and Shortboard types.

Lanuza Municipal Mayor Salvacion Azarcon pointed out that the Lanuza Surfing Festival has gained national press fame and she is thankful for hosting Philippine Surfing Championship Tour’s second leg. Mayor Azarcon added that she’ll continue to promote the province of Lanuza as one of the key surfing destinations in the Philippines.

Lanuza is a one-and-a-half hour plane ride from Manila and a three-hour bus ride from Surigao City. The iconic waves in the river mouth of Doot Poktoy of Lanuza is going will be the arena for Filipino surf athletes who are vying to take the top spot and earn points for the national surf rankings. With a prize of PHP 570,000, this year’s Lanuza Surfing Festival certainly is the biggest in history.
