IN PHOTOS: Young pop star Sassa Dagdag unveils her debut album “Sassy Sassa”

She entered the room with her charming smile and courteous greeting.

“Good evening po. I’m Sassa Dagdag.”

She then introduced her solo album Sassy Sassa under PolyEast Records, barely containing her excitement. Sassy Sassa is comprised of five tracks featuring her first single, “Kumakaba,” written by Arnie Mendaros.

Sassa shared that the entire album is about young love, and “Kumakaba” describes how a young girl like her is starting to discover it. When asked if her album is dedicated to anyone or if she has a boyfriend, Sassa answered, “Wala po. Bawal pa po, kasi bata pa po ako,” followed by a giggle. And this she added is the whole idea for the album.

Sassa first rose to fame as a finalist on The Voice Kids PH Season 2 under Team Bamboo. Her soulful voice, which people likened to Beyonce, won the hearts of many. As it turns out, Beyonce is one of her idols; someone she would like to collaborate with one day. As a treat, she gave the press a rendition of Beyonce’s If I Were A Boy a capella.

Though many things have changed since her stint in The Voice Kids, Sassa said she still makes time to enjoy herself. Right now, she is an incoming ninth grader in one of the high schools at her hometown of Angeles City. She is thankful that her school’s leniency whenever she has gigs in Manila. They often allow her to take her school work in advance if it coincides with a gig.

When asked what track would she like to take come Senior High, Sassa admitted she’s taking things as they come for now. True enough, if she continues in honing her talent for singing, she’ll find herself going places.

Check out her live performances during the press conference last Thursday, May 4, at the PolyEast Records office in Universal Tower Building.

We were definitely #shookt!
