French DJ sensation David Guetta ushered in the new year with a bang, as he put on an unforgettable show during the Unity Tour 2017 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last Thursday, January 5. The 49-year-old dance music icon returned to Manila and proved why he’s still ‘the biggest DJ in the world’ by captivating the rave-hungry Pinoy audience with his unique brand of electronic dance music (EDM) and over-the-top psychedelic visual display.

The pumped up party-goers were treated to a thrilling blend of throbbing beats, including classic tracks such as ‘Play Hard’, ‘Bad’, ‘Titanium’, ‘Shot Me Down’, ‘When Love Takes Over’ and many more from the best that house music has to offer.

Although the Grammy-winner did not appear on stage until midnight, Guetta’s performance was well worth the wait as he kept the packed ‘Big Dome’ audience on their feet, with everyone busting their own moves and bopping their heads to the music.

The internationally-acclaimed DJ, who’s also a big-time social media influencer with a staggering two billion streams on Spotify, kept his youthful energy throughout his set and left fans singing along the tunes and partying the night away.

Aside from the tantalizing tunes, Guetta also dazzled with his trademark visual spectacle of huge LED screens, massive projections, countless pyrotechnics and an array of jaw-dropping lasers and strobe lights. The aerial display of lasers were equally enticing and seemed to match each heart-thumping tune. In between songs, the Paris-born record producer chatted with the people in attendance and revealed that he is a big-time football fan. “I like music and sports because it brings everybody together,” he said while prompting the awestruck audience to raise their hands high up in the air.

Prior to Guetta’s performance, local DJs’ Funk Avy and Tom Taus warmed up the turntables with amazing sets of their own, while MC’s Mars Miranda and Ace Ramos kept the crowd engaged before the EDM maestro did his thing.

David Guetta’s second time performing in the country was made possible by Will Bros Entertainment and Smart Music Live. His first venture in the country was in 2012, when he played inside the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
