Weddings, they are one of the most sacred and most solemn events in anyone’s life. If you have attended weddings as bridesmaid or groomsman, you’d know that bloopers are unwelcome. After all, it is a once in a lifetime event for anybody and they want it to be as perfect and as special as possible.
But perfection, solemnity, and even sacredness should not be equated to stiffness, rigidness, and perhaps, even stoicism. It is a common notion that you have to be “serious” and “proper” in formal events. And somehow it is often taken to mean that you can’t have some fun.
Though we believe that there is a proper way to act in certain situations, you shouldn’t forget to enjoy every moment. And this was exactly what this bridesmaid did during the wedding of her closest friend.
Jennica Resurreccion was one of the bridesmaids to the wedding of her closest friend, Eden Samonte last February 10. When the photos were released courtesy of Zeus Martinez Photography, Jennica’s reactions were golden.
She told InqPOP! that during the reception, she was surprised that everyone was cheering every time her photo comes up. It looked like she was upstaging the bride when she wasn’t really doing any of that. Rather, she just decided to have fun. “Of course in a wedding we want everything to be perfect, but I thought: ‘hey, we should be having fun!’ I just don’t want to be stiff. I laughed when I felt like laughing; I cried when I felt like crying—I was just being authentic,” she said.
Having fun didn’t end for Jennica there. She decided to “embody the #upstagingbridesmaid” by creating witty captions for some of her photos that it gained a lot of traction on social media.
Jennica clarified that she doesn’t encourage for people to upstage the bride because it’s her day. Rather she wants people to “…embrace your quirks and your flaws. In today’s world we are driven by likes, oftentimes we want to project the best version of ourselves. When I see the photos, I see that “krung krung” side of me, and people love it cause it’s real.”
