Classified ADS 2017 uncovers the rise of content marketers in social media

The content-making phenomena in social media was uncovered in a symposium spearheaded by the UP Alliance of Development Communication Students (UP ADS) entitled Like, Comment, Share: The Rise of Content-makers in Social Media last October 9 at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) NCAS Auditorium.

The said event is an installment of Classified ADS (CLADS), an annual development-oriented symposium done by UP ADS. UP ADS is the first academic-civic organization in UPLB that functions to initiate development in the community.

CLADS 2017 brought in three resource speakers who shared their knowledge, experiences, and expertise regarding content-making.

First off was digital and comic artist Andoyman who talked about self-expression through digital art. In his talk, he shared his inspirations behind his works and the notable impacts they made on social media. Ranging from novelty to woke digital art, he has it covered.

Joining him was Mr. Henri Igna of Words Anonymous, a group of spoken word artists in the Philippines that aims to promote this art form all over the cover the country. He talked about the use of spoken word as an avenue for discussing social issues. He performed spoken word pieces entitled Hermit Crab and Pulang Dugo, Bughaw na Mata which are about privilege and nationalism, respectively.

To complete the list, Mr. Aron Garchitorena of Miriam College gave light on how content-makers establish relevance and influence in social media and for netizens to be vigilant and contribute to the spreading of accurate and correct information. To conclude the symposium, an open forum was conducted for the speakers to answer the questions of the audience.

With the vast reach of social media, social issues faced by the country must be given the attention they deserve. Social media serves as a good platform to utilize communication in order to inculcate different forms of development.

CLADS 2017 would like to thank those who attended the symposium. See you at the next installment of CLADS!

The symposium is powered by Assortedge, INQUIRER.net, InqPop, and Wazzup Philippines. Special thanks to UP Gawad Kalinga Los Baños, UP Photographers’ Society, Umalohokan Inc. UP Creo, and Eatsumo.
