You’ve been probably confused by seeing unusual words in your social media feed that you’re not familiar with. Don’t worry, fam. We got you! Update your vocabulary by familiarizing these words often used by millennials so you can relate to them.

1. SHOOK
Mostly used by millennials to describe a thing that makes them feel excited, scared and shocked.

2. ON FLEEK
When someone says you are “on fleek” means you are either on point, cool, very good or perfect. Most of the time, it is used to describe any person’s eyebrows—e.g. “Eyebrows on fleek”

3. LIT
Often used by millennials to describe something amazing or awesome.

4. BAE
Refers to your significant other like boyfriend, girlfriend or spouse.

5. SHIP
Millennials use this term to support a couple’s relationship or to play as a matchmaker between a boy and a girl and wanting them to be in a romantic relationship.

6. SQUAD
Basically, it refers to a group of people. But for millennials, it’s their group of friends who they hang out with the most and can be considered as a second family.

7. LOWKEY
Means that you’re keeping things secretly or doing things without getting the attention of other people.

8. SHADE
It has nothing to do with sunglasses. This is usually a common term used in a phrase— e.g. throwing shades which means you are criticizing or talking trash to someone or publicly disrespecting them.

9. RECEIPTS
When someone has a proof or evidence of someone’s hypocrisy or the other person “being show off” from their past conversations on their social media accounts or text messages.

10. SLAY
Literally means to “kill” or destroy but for the millennials, it means someone really looks good or when someone’s doing really well like “killing it”.
