UP DILIMAN, Quezon City, January 5, 2017 — UP Broadcasters’ Guild, or UP BroadGuild, the first and only socio-civic organization in the College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines-Diliman, celebrates its 18th year with the UP community with a series of events from January 24 to 27.

The week kicks off on January 24 with an art installation created by the members of the student organization, followed by a grand feast for the college community. The grand feast, known as Grand Pakain, is a tradition of celebrating with the community by treating them a full meal for free. This year, UP BroadGuild serves the college a breakfast menu and is appropriately entitled Energy Ener-GPAK, which recalls how the meal gives people energy for the day. The event will be held at 4:00PM, in the FOI Garden in the College of Mass Communication, UP Diliman.

The celebration continues on January 25 with LAMONAYAN: Extreme Edition — a food-eating contest organized by UP BroadGuild that has become a tradition in the College of Mass Communication. On its 18th year, the organization raises the bar by giving its contestants a challenge like never before. This year, the contestants will take on rounds of extreme food that varies from taste to texture, all the way to extreme combinations. Winners not only receive various gifts from sponsors but also win cash prizes up to Php 1000! The event will be held at 4:30 in the afternoon, at the FOI Garden, in the College of Mass Communication, UP Diliman.

Keeping the anniversary hype up on January 26, UP Broadcasters’ Guild holds their educational forum entitled Media Revolution: Makabagong Mukha ng Filipino Films. As the title suggests, the topic of this year’s Media Revolution is inspired by the recent changes being made in Philippine cinema, specifically with the Metro Manila Film Festival or MMFF. This year’s Media Revolution dares to enlighten its audience with the help of its speakers from official members and participants of the MMFF, about the issue and what it implies for the future of Philippine cinema. The forum will be held at 4:00PM in the CMC Audi, UP Diliman.

To culminate the week-long celebration with the UP community, UP Broadcasters’ Guild invites home-grown bands, spoken word artists, and student filmmakers on January 27 to showcase their talents in Destino: Sa’n Ba ‘To Papunta? The event will be held at 6 in the evening, in Dap-ay located in front of the UP F ilm Institute building. D estino is a free night of music, poetry, and films, open to everyone in the university.

So what are you waiting for?

SURGE with UP Broadcasters’ Guild from January 24 to 27 and witness how this student organization has unraveled realities and unleashed change, one year at a time since 1998. ADVT
