PX8 POSTER

The University of the Philippines Political Society will hold “Ped Xing 8: Connecting to Politics in the Digital Media Era” this November 26-27 at Room 400, Palma Hall, UP Diliman. This two-day politics camp will be composed of educational talks and competitions that will focus on E-Politics.

On its eighth year, the Ped Xing Conference, which used to be exclusive for junior high school students, will be opened to spectators from all levels particularly, though not limited to, the youth as they need to learn how to be more critical consumers and users of digital media. The high school contestants, on the other hand, will participate in various competitions such as essay-writing contest, poster-making contest, quiz bee, and debate tournament to exercise scientific analysis in understanding current events and politics. They will also engage with other spectators in the plenary discussions.

Dr. Perlita Frago-Marasigan of the UP Department of Political Science will speak on how digital media changed politics and Mr. Jay Jaboneta of the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation, Inc. on the role of digital media in Political Awareness and involvement. Atty. James Jimenez, Spokesman and Director of the Education and Information Department of the Commission on Elections, will also give a talk on the role of digital media in government and governance.
Last year, Ped Xing 7 zeroed in on “Philippines on the World Stage: The Challenge of a Globalizing World” and tackled Political Science concepts and issues faced by the world and shed light on many issues surrounding the international relations of the country.

In line with the organization’s aims of promoting Political Science as a tool for understanding and transforming the society, UP POLSCi conducts Ped Xing annually to share the experience of the dynamic discipline of politics to secondary students.

Anchored on the pillars of Leadership, Service, Excellence and Politics, UP POLSCi is the youngest political organization in the university. With the 13th anniversary theme “BEYOND: Braving the Unknown”, Ped Xing 8 is just one of the meaningful activities of the organization that are all worth joining.
