Pentatonix: “We’re so excited – Manila was one of our favorite shows ever!”

After their successful shows in Manila and Cebu last year, the American a cappella group Pentatonix expressed their excitement to see their Filipino fans again as they are slated to perform on September 24 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Composed of Avi Kaplan, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Mitch Grassi, Pentatonix said that Manila was by far one of the best shows they’ve ever had.

“We’re so excited! In Manila, it’s so much fun and it’s one of our favorite shows – the crowd was amazing. It’s always what we’ve talked about since the tour is approaching so I just can’t wait to go back there,” said Kirstin Maldonado in an exclusive phone interview with InqPOP.

For their Filipino fans, Kirstin also said that Pentatonix will be doing some covers that they’ve performed just once on stage. Filipino fans can expect that their upcoming show won’t disappoint and that they’ll give their fans a spectacular night filled with fun and music.

Pentatonix is the only a cappella group to have won two Grammy Awards for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A cappella, and is probably one of the most successful vocal groups to date. But the road to success has never been easy for Pentatonix.

“I feel like when we’ve started [we felt] like we’re underdogs and I think that we always thought we have something to prove because we’re a cappella and a lot of people don’t take us seriously,” said Kirstin.

Every cynical comment they received became an inspiration to the group to prove to everyone that an a cappella group can also go mainstream and offer something new. According to her, winning a Grammy felt like a validation for all the hard work they’ve put in.

Pentatonix also appeared in the feature film Pitch Perfect 2 where Kirstin said it was one of the many opportunities they’ve had and it felt like they crossed something off from their bucket list. Kirstin expressed gratitude to their Filipino fans for supporting them throughout their career.

“Thank you so much for supporting us and thanks for being so good in social media and being so involved in everything we do. We all see how much you’re supporting us throughout our entire career, so huge thank you! We love you [and] we can’t wait to see you all!”
