Search for the next Pinoy K-pop star starts

Applications for the biggest annual talent search competition for Filipino K-pop performers and cover groups begin as Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines (KCC) opens the auditions for the 2016 Pinoy K-pop Star.

The contest is the Philippine finals for the KBS K-pop World Festival Contest to be held in Changwon, South Korea. It will have two categories—the vocal category, which is the singing competition, and the performance category, which is both a singing and dancing competition with focus on the overall performance of the group.

K-pop hopefuls preferably 18 years old and above, need to upload audition videos in YouTube and send it to Korean Cultural Center on or before June 26. Former winners of the Pinoy K-pop Star competition that were sent to Korea as Philippine representatives are no longer allowed to join the competition. Participants must be a resident and a natural citizen of the Philippines. Their parents must also not have Korean citizenship.

Announcement of finalists is on July 1. The Philippine grand finals will be held on July 23, Saturday at Skydome, SM City North EDSA.

The grand prize winners of these two categories will be the Philippines’ representative to the online semi-finals of the KBS K-pop World Festival. If the Philippine representatives qualify for the grand finals in Korea, they will fly to Korea to join the live competition.
