The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE), is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. The organization is thriving to live up to the slogan that is why this year, the IEEE Mapua Institute of Technology Student Branch (IEEE-MITSB) returns with its annual weeklong convention: the IEEE Week.

The IEEE Week, awarded as last academic year’s best organization activity at Mapúa, will be held on May 23-27, 2016 at the Intramuros Campus with the theme “Inclusive Growth Driven by Innovation.” The theme focuses on the role of innovations in the growth of our economy. This weeklong event will be participated by engineering students from different universities such as the University of the Philippines, University of the East, De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas, and Mapúa Institute of Technology.

The festivities are scheduled with a variety of activities and competitions for Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Engineering students. The week will kickoff with the TECHINARS on May 23 and 24, which includes a series of seminars from experts in different fields, featuring the Father of ISDB-T in the Philippines, Engr. James Rodney Santiago, as well as experts from the IEEE Philippine Section, and many more. To cap off the day, a workshop from Christopher David, founder of VR Philippines, will be held.

May 25 will feature a poster making competition open to different programs. Furthermore, the organization will host its annual IEEE Quiz Bee: Battle of The Brains on May 26 which will be participated by students from different universities. To finish off the week, the hosts will hold the 13th Annual Project Design Competition (13th PDC). The PDC is the venue for showcasing different prototypes with their own innovative features and purposes.

The IEEE Week aims to be a venue for engineering students to come together and celebrate technology and innovations, and, in line with the theme, discover just how big a difference our innovations will make in our country’s future.
