Upgrading reality through gaming

GameFest_Online-poster_v2 (1)

Having almost everything at the touch of one’s fingertips, modern society now demands more than just up-to-date knowledge. It demands taking that knowledge further to create innovation. To create more. To go further. To go beyond the current reality. To upgrade that reality. How does one go about that?

The Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP) spreads awareness and encourages development through the Philippine Game Festival 2015 (GameFest). Now on its sixth year, GameFest continues to be the largest and the most anticipated gathering of the gaming industry’s experts, developers, enthusiasts, students, educators, organizations and stakeholders. Various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, different blogs and websites are generating buzz about this year’s theme: “Beyond Reality”. GameFest will be held on October 2 – 3 (Friday and Saturday) at The Alpha Tents at the Alphaland Southgate, 2258 Chino Roces Ave., Makati City, Metro Manila.

Here, game enthusiasts can find out what it takes to turn into game designers, developers and even entrepreneurs. Aspiring game developers can meet with and learn from the exhibits and lectures of the gaming industry gurus. For starters, Unity Technologies and Enderun Colleges, in cooperation with GDAP, will be offering a free advanced class called: “New Features in Unity: Networking and Multiplayer in Unity”. The class, consisting of 35 hand-picked senior students and professionals, will be held on October 1 at Enderun Colleges. Product Evangelist Rustum Scammel of Unity Technologies will be the lecturer. At the conference itself, renowned local and international speakers can impart their expertise and tell their inspiring stories on how they were able to influence change and innovation by going beyond the idea and turning them into realities.

Also, schools and universities looking to offer and to update their curriculum, especially in game development, can establish relationships. Learning institutions now have the platform to forge mutually beneficial affiliations with various companies and organizations. Educators and students alike can see first-hand the future in game development. Games can be more than a means of entertainment and stress-relief. Games can be a means of instruction and learning. Games can be a means to earn a living. Diverse institutions can also discuss, propose and revolutionize how gaming could be utilized as tools in making learning fun, easy and holistic for both the students and the teachers. Game publishers can give gamers and users a taste of their new releases and boost their sales. Different service and technology providers can showcase their latest innovations and get instant feedback from consumers and suppliers alike; thus fostering and inspiring even more innovation. Companies can also scout budding talents to nurture.

All these and more will be available to the participants of the annual event. Last year, nearly 1,500 delegates learned and experienced the joys of bringing game ideas to life. This year, GDAP aims to reach and inspire 1,700 delegates to push the local industry forward. Don’t just play the game, master them. Make them. Be part of the development. Be part of the #GameFest2015!
